The best Halloween
The best Halloween I can remember was back in 1990. I was an assistant director at a home for developmentally disabled and dually diagnosed adults in Uptown. I wasn't too long out of college. My recent ex was in a band and they agreed to come play for my clients. It was pretty crazy. I was under the weather, recovering from a really bad bout of gastroenteritis but drug myself to work. We had 150 residents plus staff watching a very loud band dressed in drag for Halloween. The emcee was our activities director, himself a drag queen in his off time (RIP, Tyrese). He dressed up like a glittery fairy and we filmed the whole thing. Everyone was dancing and happy. The residents talked about it for days. It was surreal. It was the best.
